I am often asked the question “What comes first for me in my artistic process; the design, or the materials?” And my answer remains “Sometimes one, sometimes the other, sometimes both!” This collection belongs in the both category. I am always looking for unique gemstones for my design and when I found the focal stones of this collection I had to have them. As I started to “shop” within my stock of pearls and gemstones I started pulling what I had that would really highlight and complement the coppery red inclusions within the stones. As I was putting these together I realized there was a past design of mine that would be perfect, with some tweaks and updates to accommodate my vision. As I wanted to make the dramatic focal of this statement necklace the “flowers “ I chose to have a simple neckwire in a “V” shape that has been hand formed for texture and strength. The "flowers" on this necklace are composed of luminous red, with some coppery overtones freshwater Keishi pearls, warm white Keishi pearls and high quality Garnet briolettes. They have been meticulously wire wrapped in 14 karat yellow gold fill wire and wired to their 14 karat yellow gold fill base and accented with the lepidocrosite hung from chain of varying lengths.
